Crime & Police changes

The sergeant in charge of the three Dulwich wards, Iain Bartlay, is leaving us and we have yet to hear who his replacement is. He has done an excellent job but, over the last three years, Dulwich has gone from 3 to 1 sergeants locally - and Southwark as a whole has gone from 21 to 10. There has also been a recurrence of the car scratching that took place in Burbage Road three years ago - in Stradellaa Road & Gilkes Crescent. There have also been reports of credit card scams locally - a resident had  £1000 taken from a building society account  - apparently an extra card had been applied for in their name, it was sent to their address but was never received – it seems that it had been intercepted either at the post office or on the delivery round. There have also been two reports of HMRC refund cheques being stolen.

Dulwich Estate Scheme of Management procedural changes

Eve Shepherd has now joined the SoM (Scheme of Management) office to assist Nina Rees. She works mornings 5 days a week and will be in charge of registering and progressing building licence applications. The SoM has also changed their policy over non-contentious applications. If there are no objections, and the licence goes through under delegated powers, Estate Trustees will no longer have ten days to comment. They will have to respond within the initial 21-day consultation. This should mean that these applications are dealt with in 4-6 weeks rather than 6-8 weeks as at present.

Estate response to Grenfell House fire

There are 8 tower blocks of flats on the Dulwich Estate, 7 at Dulwich Wood Park and 1 at Sydenham Rise. Some additional fire proofing works were carried out on all the blocks after the Lakanal House fire in 2009. None of the blocks has been over-clad and they all still have the original steel windows. The Estate has sent a letter to all the residents in order to answer any concerns they may have over fire safety.

Peckham Rye to Dulwich Quietway

For current information see https://southwark.gov.uk/peckhamryedulwich The Woodwarde Road RA recently met Council officers to discuss their plans in more detail. It remains unclear whether Court Lane is also part of the plans. There are also suggestions that TfL may object because of the impact on the No 12 bus at the end of Barry Road. Further information is required.

Foundation School Coaches

There appears to be no further progress on sorting out the new pedestrian crossing on the South Circular to enable the coach routes to be amended. TfL have so far been unhelpful and local MP Helen Hayes is pressing them hard.
