Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous! Congratulations to the Dulwich Players on a highly spirited (sorry…) production of Noël Coward’s comic masterpiece in early November.
It is no small matter to remember your lines in a play lasting almost 2 ½ hours, particularly when there are only seven characters and so many dry martinis. Whilst all the actors are worthy of the highest praise, I particularly enjoyed watching Charlotte Holmes as the maid, who demonstrated her mastery of comic timing and hilarious range of facial expressions. Alex Curran thoroughly inhabited her role as the eccentric medium, Madame Arcati, a role previously performed in the West End by luminaries such as Penelope Keith, Alison Steadman, Angela Lansbury and Jennifer Saunders.
Meanwhile Chloe Penfold made a highly accomplished debut performance as the flirtatious and irresponsible ghost, Elvira, pouting and shimmering her way through each Act. Ed Beesley and Phoebe Morgan filled the roles of Mr and Mrs Condomine with aplomb, portraying a (relatively) normal married couple plunged into the most unlikely of circumstances.
Book your tickets now for the Dulwich Players’ next production, an original pantomime, Toad of Toad Hall, at St Barnabas Parish Hall from 19 -22 December. Sure to be a sell-out!
